The Mighty Studios team and I turned our client's vision into a manufactured product. Two users had to be considered - the cat owner, and the cat itself. Its exterior look had to be appropriate in a high-aesthetic, modern house - which no other mass-produced cat house catered to at the time. Its interior had to provide warmth, comfort, and rain protection to the cat. The two outer shells are made of rotationally-molded recyclable HDPE, which forms a twin-wall construction that provides insulation from the outside environment. While a replaceable front panel allows the cat to enter and one-way back escape hatch allows the cat to escape from predators. The Blink Outdoor Cat House was a finalist for the IDSA International Design Excellence Awards in 2016.
The Cat House was fully modeled in SolidWorks with surfaces that considered draft angles on all molded parts.
The rotationally-molded, twin-wall HDPE design provides insulation - identical in principle and material to a common ice cooler.
